Bassoon
Hailed by Crescendo Magazine as ''a musician of great sensitivity'' and described by the International Double Reed Society as a bassoonist ''with a strongly characteristic and versatile bassoon playing'', Mavroudes Troullos is praised for his maturity and expressiveness alongside with his technical mastery.
He is one of the most prominent bassoonists of his generation having given recitals in the biggest concert halls of Europe such as the Amphitheater of the Philharmonie in Paris, The Elgar Room of the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Kleine Zaal of Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Thessaloniki Concert Hall and Konzerthaus Berlin.
He was awarded three times the 1st Prize at the ''Grand Prize Virtuoso International Music Competition'' during 2019, in Paris, London and Amsterdam, the 2nd Prize at the'' North International Music Competition'' in 2018 Sweden, the ''Horlait-Dapsens Award 2018'' in Belgium. and he was named ''Ambassador of the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel'' in 2018.
He has appeared as a soloist with the Ghent Symphony Orchestra, Koninklijke Muziekkapel van de Gidsen, contemporary ensemble Sturm und Klang, Orchestre de Nivelles, and Antwerpen Camerata. He is often engaged in renowned festivals such as Festival Radio France Occitanie Montpellier, International Pharos Chamber Music Festival and Hoerfest Neue Musik Detmold.
Next to his performances, Mavroudes Troullos is a PhD Researcher in the Arts at the LUCA School of Arts expanding the repertoire of his instrument . Many great composers dedicated works to him such as Philippe Hersant, Anna Segal, Denis Ivanidze and Marc Yeats to name some but few.
Mavroudes Troullos is an artist on the Belgian record label Harp&Co alongside harpist Rachel Talitman with numerous world premiere recordings and collaborations with such artists as Jean-Marc Fessard and Eyal Ein-Habar.
Born in Nicosia, Cyprus, in 1992 into a family of musicians, Troullos started playing the bassoon at the age of thirteen and he was only eighteen when he had his first solo appearance performing the virtuosic Concerto for Bassoon and Orchestra by C.M. von Weber. Later on, he studied in Athens, Leipzig, Brussels and privately with the solo bassoonist of the Vienna Philharmonic, Michael Werba. Troullos had the previllage to play for the legendary bassoonist Mordechai Rechtman only four months before he passed away.
Mavroudes Troullos' recital partners are Lily Maisky on the piano and Roberta Brambilla on the harp. He has also performed with such artists as Chen Halevi, Celine Moinet, Aleksey Shadrin, Romain Leleu and Dmitry Ishkhanov.
He performs on a 100 years old Heckel bassoon that was previously played in the Berlin Philharmonic.
